Hello

hello – come in and make yourself at home

The Woodies have a blog. It’s a kind of collective. Not sure we’re about to start a revolution baby, but we might kindle a small debate or two and perhaps raise a smile. Anyway, rather than just blogging corporate Woodreed by fielding our top Woodie (as so many other companies seem to do in a thinly veiled attempt at impressing with their profundity), we wanted all our individual voices to be heard. An agency’s most valuable assets are its people after all. Everyone’s got something to say here and with us everyone’s ideas and opinions matter.

Each week someone different will be blogging. It's mostly about stuff that rocks our world as well as the flipside – the things that just don't cut it with us. We'll blog about inside and outside – inside this glorious industry where we work and outside in the real world.
It's a bit of an experiment, so go with us on this one.

Hope you enjoy.

Brief, clever and very memorable

One of the many things I enjoy is reading epigrams. Not only are they thought provoking, they’re hugely inspirational and often very funny.

Literary genius Oscar Wilde has delivered some of the best epigrams. Below are a few of my favourites:

"Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future."

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."

"I never travel without my diary. One must always have something sensational to read on the train."

"Women are made to be loved not understood."

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."

"Men always want to be a woman's first love. Women have a more subtle instinct: What they like is to be a man's last romance."

Please share any epigrams or even idioms that you enjoy reading.

  1. "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." Dear Oscar has provided more bar room philosophers with quotes to pass off as their own than pretty much anyone else. A clever man. Not sure that "women are made to be loved etc" was said with sincerity though?!

  2. Here's one from one of my heroes David Olgilvy:

"If it doesn't sell, it isn't creative"

  3. It's Valentines day today and on my card it reads:

"To the world you are one person, but to one person you are the world."

    How beautiful...
